Trying something new

I thought I might try blogging from my tablet, today. I'm too lazy to set up my laptop and my desktop is having a bad year. It's not as easy as I might have wanted but it DOES work, albeit slower than using the keyboard.

I've been thinking about some of my habits; I have a phobia of running out of toilet paper, a phobia well-engrained in my brain from repeated encounters with paperless public restrooms and a childhood where a box of tissues on the tank, to substitute for a roll, was a not-uncommon occurrance. Whenever I go to Walmart, I buy another 12 pack of double rolls. Two-ply, of course, one-ply is too prone to breakage during use. when the bathroom closet overflows with rolls, I force myself to stop buying but it's a struggle. Eventually, the stash drops down to a single 12 pack and I start to fret. A quick trip down the paper products aisle and I feel better, but I find myself buying more and more packages and the cycle repeats.

I also like to have a month's supply of panties and socks, particularly since the washing machine kicked the bucket. I like to wash clothes once a week, but sometimes, it just isn't feasible. I've never needed the whole month's supply but I like to know it's there. I can't afford a month's worth of bras but I have about a dozen.

I'm very particular about my underwear and socks. I only like all-cotton bras; I've found a sports model that I like but it has a cheap zipper in the front. The zipper doesn't latch so it can slide down. I find myself yanking the zipper up, repeatedly. I've pulled the zip off of several, while the bras were still pretty new. I figured out a solution, though. I cut off all remnants of the zipper with an exacto knife, then pounded eyelets into the edging on both sides of the opening. Finally, I bought some appropriately colored shoe laces and laced myself in. It looks a little kinky but I feel secure and comfortable. I buy my panties at Cacique; no itchy labels and they are usually pretty well-made; if I pull off the elastic, I can sew it back on without it looking mended. Socks are a challenge.

I used to buy socks easily. I could get cheap white all-cotton socks that folded over at the ankle, made by any number of hosiery manufacturers. I like cheap identical socks because I don't have to worry about matching them up after they come out of the dryer, and white because it matches almost everything. Now, most cheap socks are polyester ankle-highs. I hate them. I like to bleach my socks every few weeks and polyester either gets hard or it melts with this treatment.  They make my feet sweaty and I hate anklets! I bought several packages of cotton socks a few years ago but those have almost all passed the way if all socks, either with holes at the big toe and heel or just vanishing into the black hole in the dryer. I don't know what I'll do when the last is gone! Maybe I can felt some out of all of that toilet paper....
